At the board of directors meeting this week, IEL honored the service of board members Joe Aguerrebere and Bert Berkley, who are retiring from the IEL board. Both men will be staying on in an advisory capacity as directors emeritus.
Aguerrebere served on IEL's board of eight years and is the Associate Director for Teacher Education and Public School Programs for the California State University System. “Joe’s experience with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, as well as his work in schools, higher education and philanthropy reflects the diverse experience that IEL believes a leader needs. We thank him for his many years of service to our Board,” said IEL president Martin J. Blank.
Berkley servedon IEL's board for 20 years and is the founder of the Local Investment Commission and Chairman of the Board at Tension Corporation. “Bert epitomizes the best of what local leaders can do in their own communities and how they can inform what national organizations do. I am delighted he is staying with us as director emeritus,” said Blank.
