New: IEL Data Tools to Support Transition-Age Youth with Disabilities

Data Tools to Support Transition-Age Youth with Disabilities

Since 2019, the Institute for Educational Leadership has authored a Youth Transition Report to underscore the persistent and pernicious gaps between youth and young adults with disabilities and those without disabilities on measures of success in education, employment, opportunity, and poverty.

While data and reports exist for the working-age adult population and children with disabilities, IEL recognized a lack of information specific to the youth and young adult population in the 14-24 age group. IEL’s Youth Transition Report addresses this need by presenting an annual snapshot of the outcome gaps between youth and young adults with disabilities and those without disabilities, including opportunity youth whom the education and workforce systems have not adequately served and supported.

Now, we are excited to launch our Transition-Age Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities Data Dashboard!

Based on the past five years’ annual Youth Transition Report, this tool presents the status and trends of the selected education, employment, opportunity youth, and poverty indicators for transition-age youth with disabilities, including the gaps between youth and young adults with and without disabilities. This dashboard is meant to be a tool for youth service practitioners, advocates, policymakers, and funders, to help illustrate where the most urgent needs are in communities across the country when it comes to ensuring all youth have the opportunity to thrive.

To begin exploring the dashboard below, you can either select the button on the right side that says “ENTER” or you can begin navigating through the pages using the left and right arrow buttons on the bottom of the tool. You can also select the option to open the tool in full screen mode. For a step-by-step guide overviewing how to use the tool, watch the video below first:

"The statistics on state specific transition aged youth are shocking. I feel they can be used to address a few of the disparities in our state. It'll be good for seeking grants based on the information."
