On October 24, IEL will convene Learning Lab in Washington, D.C. on Family & Community Engagement at 9:00 a.m. EST. The U.S. Department of Education will live stream the event online.

On October 24, IEL will convene Learning Lab in Washington, D.C. on Family & Community Engagement at 9:00 a.m. EST. The U.S. Department of Education will live stream the event online. The Live Stream will offer key insights and lessons learned at the state and district level, particularly on family engagement as a lever for better alignment between the early childhood education and K-12 and implications for Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plans.

The Learning Lab will feature a discussion on federal policy featuring Libby Doggett, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Early Learning, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education, and Linda K. Smith, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Next will be a panel of state and district family engagement leaders, including Elaine Zimmerman, Senior Consultant, Two Gen Initiative, Commission on Women, Children and Seniors, State of Connecticut; Sarah Ogeto, Principal Consultant, Illinois State Board of Education Division of Innovation and Improvement; and Molly Sehring, Director of Family & Community Partnerships, Metro Nashville Public Schools.
