Position Description - Finance and HR Associate


The Institute for Educational Leadership’s (IEL) (a not-for-profit organization) mission is to equip leaders to work together across boundaries to build effective systems that prepare children and youth for postsecondary education, careers, and citizenship.  With an annual budget of 9 million, IEL is seeking Finance/HR Associate who can support the organization in its continued growth.

Basic Functions

The Finance and Human Resources Associate will provide financial and human resource support for staff with regard to purchases and reimbursement requests, assuring the accuracy of all transactions, compliance issues, and streamlining and updating financial processes.

This position reports to the Director for Finance and Human Resources.

Finance (80%)

  • Prepares vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports and other records and reviews them for accuracy;
  • Responsible for financial and procurement transactions in QuickBooks by entering required data to ensure timely payment of invoices;
  • Compiles and organizes documentations and files;
  • Analyze financial data and reconcile and verify information;
  • Prepares monthly financial reports for program directors;
  • Prepare and maintain records and files for all grants and contracts awarded which ensures detailed accounting for all grant/contract records received;
  • Provide support for the organization’s yearly independent audit and work closely with the auditors and Director of Finance and HR to ensure implementation of recommendations from the audit;
  • Provide support to Director of Finance and HR on annual budget preparation for Board approval and update as appropriate during the fiscal year; and
  • Provide financial administrative support to program staff.

Human Resource (15%)

  • Performs data entry and personnel file maintenance;
  • Assist with position descriptions, onboarding and orientation related to recruitment of new personnel; and
  • Assist in developing and implementing training programs including both content and skill-based professional development.

General Office (5%)

  • Special reports and projects as assigned.
  • Provides clerical and operational support to other staff.


  • Educational background in business administration, human resources, and/or accounting;
  • Two years of general office experience preferred;
  • Two to three years of accounting or finance experience a plus;
  • Some college or specific coursework tied to general principles of accounting;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks or similar accounting software a plus;
  • Superior attention to detail and excellent organizational skills;
  • High level of personal responsibility, flexibility and confidentiality; and
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, aptitude for working with a wide range of individuals, and strong collaborative teamwork skills.


$45,000 - $60,000 commensurate with experience.
