Position Description - Events and Operations Program Associate

Reporting to the vice president for equity and impact, the program associate will support the events and operations of IEL's Coalition for Community School and family and community engagement team.

For 55 years, IEL has prepared fearless and unapologetic champions for equity in education and workforce development. Notwithstanding numerous reforms and incremental progress, we have not as a nation been able to achieve equity in education and workforce development over the last 55 years. Our big idea is that we can improve opportunity and outcomes and close gaps in access and achievement in education and workforce development through innovation and leadership development. If we invest in community leaders of all ages, stages, and sectors, we can change the odds.

Responsibilities

Meeting & Conference Planning (70%)

  • Coordinate logistics for internal and external meetings and events for up to 4,500 people, including the biennial National Family and Community Engagement Conference and the National IEL Family Engagement and Community Schools Conference
  • Coordinate planning calls with presenters and planning committees
  • Assist in organizing and preparing event materials
  • Correspond and communicate with staff, vendors, stakeholders, and attendees
  • Be the point person for on-site meeting logistics

Team Operations (15%)

  • Manage the VP’s schedule
  • Reconcile receipts and vendor payments
  • Assist with IEL's Coalition for Community Schools’ Steering Committee communications

Project Support (15%)

  • Maintain and utilize IEL’s database and assist in maintaining interaction with partners through phone calls, mass mailings, and other communication platforms
  • Document program activities through weekly summaries and compile for grant reports
  • Assist in the creation of flyers, brochures, and presentations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Event and meeting planning experience (experience of planning large events or conferences desired)
  • Project management experience demonstrating
  • Capacity to make decisions and communicate those decisions with tact and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate diverse individuals and groups, using a collaborative style, to achieve shared goals
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multi-faceted, team-oriented environment
  • Passionate about issues of racial and social justice and IEL’s vision, mission, and values of equity, inclusion, collaboration, and impact
  • Proficiency with research, data collection, review, analysis, documentation and reporting applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and databases
  • Experience with web-related software (i.e. Cvent, Salesforce, Constant Contact) preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, time management skills, and ability to juggle multiple projects at once
  • IEL is a Washington, D.C.-based organization. This position is based at IEL’s D.C. office.

Compensation

Salary will be $45,000-60,000 based on experience with comprehensive health, dental, retirement, education and professional development, and life insurance benefits.
