Position Overview

IEL is seeking a data management summer intern who under administrative direction of IEL’s data analyst will assist in developing, maintaining, and analyzing information for strategic decision support. This position will engage in hands-on data management work to support IEL’s innovative strategies and program evaluation.

Weekly schedules, as well as start and end dates within late May-early August time frame are flexible. This could be built as up to a full-time, six-week internship or as a part-time up to 12-week experience. The internship is paid an hourly minimum wage (District of Columbia minimum wage in May and June is $13.25/hour and in July and August $14/hr).

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve data from available public sources or databases based upon projects’ needs
  • Manage data on the server and prepare data for in-depth analysis
  • Assist with the maintenance and management of analytics systems
  • Produce ad hoc reporting using public databases and indexes
  • Supports data analyst with database development
  • Assists data analyst with the preparation of internal workshops on using analytical tools
  • May assist data analyst by providing information for operational and strategic plans, or program performance evaluation
  • May perform or assist in the delivery or presentation as well as writing documentation and technical reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Background in statistics, evaluation & research, education, public policy, public administration, or a keen interest in one or more of the following areas: data management, data analytics, and program evaluation
  • Graduate degree student preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Outstanding data management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a can-do attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and problem-solve
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of public-use available data sources, surveys, and programs, such as Census Bureau data, CDC data, ACS, CPS, Edfacts, CRDC, etc.
  • Experience in data retrieval, data cleaning, and database maintenance and development
