About IEL

For a half-century, the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) has championed the need for leaders at all levels to shake off their institutional constraints and work across boundaries to address the needs of young people and their families. IEL serves as a catalyst that helps policymakers, administrators, and practitioners at all levels to bridge bureaucratic silos and undo gridlock to improve outcomes for all young people and their families. The organization connects families, schools, and communities; builds more effective pathways to adulthood; and prepares generations of leaders.

IEL is home to the Education Policy Fellowship Program, the Center for Workforce Development, the Coalition for Community Schools, and the Family and Community Engagement network. IEL’s programs have helped define national and state policies in education and workforce development, enabled leaders to build collaborative strategies that get results, and assisted practitioners to implement best practices.

Position Overview

This position will engage in hands-on development efforts to support IEL’s various advancement projects, upcoming conferences, and visibility efforts.

This is a 2-3 days/week internship for the Fall 2017. Weekly schedule, as well as start and end dates are flexible. A daily stipend of $25/day is available for up to three days a week.

  • Deeper understanding of institutional development and advancement in non-profit sector
  • Hands-on experience fundraising for national conferences and meeting
  •  Marketing and communications experience associated with sponsorship efforts

Responsibilities might include:

  • Support funder outreach, follow-up, and tracking of various conference sponsorship efforts
  • Design infographics and social media messaging to support IEL’s sponsorship goals
  • Database management of IEL’s development efforts
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Background in education or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: fundraising and development, business administration and management, nonprofit sector, or communications and marketing
  • Rising undergraduate senior or master’s degree student
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can-do attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and problem-solve
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft products
  • Knowledge of SalesForce or other CRM software a plus
  • Experience in fundraising and development a plus
