IEL conducts two national conferences for Fellows from all of the state program sites.  The Leadership Forum (held in December) heightens Fellows’ understanding of leadership challenges and of themselves as leaders.  The Washington Policy Seminar increases Fellows’ knowledge of national policy issues and processes and gives them a chance to explore the impact of national policies on their work.  At both meetings, Fellows work and network in state program site and cross-site groups.  The Leadership Forum and the Washington Policy Seminar are very different meetings, but they provide equally important parts of the whole EPFP experience.

Leadership Forum

Fellows from across the country assemble for the first time as one cohort at the Leadership Forum in December. The conference provides an opportunity to explore the global and local contexts in which leaders, both as individuals and as members of organizations, must forge ahead. Fellows learn about the policy issues that challenge leaders and institutions, expanding their knowledge by hearing from people who study and practice leadership in a variety of settings. At the Leadership Forum, Fellows deepen ties to colleagues at their respective state program sites, and they begin to develop professional relationships with their counterparts from all over the country.

Washington Policy Seminar

Fellows gather for the second time at the Washington Policy Seminar in April. The conference affords Fellows the chance to examine the big-picture setting of national policymaking and its implications for leading and working at the state and local levels. Fellows are able to hear from and interact with an impressive list of policy experts and players, both in plenary and small-group settings. The Washington Policy Seminar enables Fellows to renew and extend professional ties and discuss the policy leadership challenges with a growing national network of colleagues.
