IEL announced C. Kent McGuire, president of the Southern Education Foundation, as the ninth chair of the organization’s board of directors. McGuire succeeds S. Decker Anstrom, who will remain a member of the board.
Last week Jamie Kendall died; she was a longtime friend of IEL. Most recently, Kendall was acting director of the Independent Living Administration at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

IEL staff Helen Janc Malone and Reuben Jacobson contributed to a recent book and highlighted strategies community schools use to flip the system and empower teachers to redesign equity-driven education reform.
Today, IEL launched the second year of the DC Youth Workforce Leaders Academy (YWLA) in collaboration with the Greater Washington Workforce Development Collaborative and the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates.
